As a Chicago career consultant, Marilyn helps individuals identify the skills they prefer to use to maximize career satisfaction and success. She helps people craft or rethink career goals and develope new strategies to reach them. Here are the specific services she provides:
Career Consultant Services
- Analyze your skills and identify those you most enjoy using.
- Develop job hunting strategies. Decide what kinds of organizations to target and identify the person who can hire you.
- Manage political problems in the office, such as conflicts with bosses and co-workers, bullying, and power struggles.
- Research and strategize for salary and outplacement negotiations.
- Develop plans for getting promoted or staying in place if you don’t want to move up.
- Coach people who want to grow in the job, be more effective leaders, or need confidential, objective feedback. Marilyn makes office calls!
- Assist in developing a plan for self employment and strategies to transition.
- Assist in thinking through career change, for those from 22-70. You don’t have to be an “X” forever!
- Assist in formulating a realistic plan for networking and meeting the people you want to know.
Career Consulting Process
You set the agenda. Marilyn looks at your resume or biography. We talk about options. If you need information she show you how to get it. If you need contacts, Marilyns teach you how to make them. She helps you develop a job hunting plan. Marilyn does no placement but will suggest names of placement firms. In a coaching session, you also set the agenda and we talk about issues: your goals, barriers to goals, and the personalities involved. Together we examine alternatives and consequences.
After a one-hour session you should have a plan and know what you need to do to implement it. You should also know whether your resume is ready for a successful job hunt. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Career Consultant Fees
This service is available by telephone, emai,l or in person in Chicago for $100 per hour or $25. per quarter hour. There is no upfront fee and you pay only for the time you use. Most sessions are 30 or 45 minutes.
